Arab Summit: King Mohammed VI Calls for Ceasefire and Reconstruction of Gaza Without Displacement of Its Population

King Mohammed VI has called for an immediate halt to military operations in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, and a return to the negotiating table with the aim of reviving the truce agreement, paving the way toward a permanent ceasefire.

In light of the alarming situation in the region following the collapse of the ceasefire in Gaza, the King, in a message addressed to the 34th Arab Summit held in Baghdad, also urged urgent intervention to end Israeli military assaults in the West Bank—particularly the demolition of homes and the forced displacement of unarmed civilians from areas under Israeli security control.

The King’s message, read out by Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, also called for ensuring the continued delivery of humanitarian aid—especially medical supplies and food—to Gaza and the West Bank without obstruction. He stressed the importance of preserving and supporting the role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in fulfilling its internationally mandated mission for civilian populations.

King Mohammed VI further called for the development of a comprehensive roadmap to launch the reconstruction plan approved at the last extraordinary Arab Summit in Cairo, without displacing the population. He emphasized that this effort should be managed by the Palestinian Authority under Arab and international supervision.

The King reiterated the need to reopen prospects for a political solution that would establish a just and genuine peace in the region, guaranteeing the Palestinian people their legitimate rights, including the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the June 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital—and with Gaza as an inseparable part of it.

He also emphasized the importance of providing sufficient support to the Palestinian Authority under the leadership of President Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen) and strengthening its institutions to meet the Palestinian people's aspirations for security, peace, progress, and prosperity.
