Moroccan Foreign Minister, Nasser Bourita said, Friday, that Morocco's normalization of diplomatic relations with Israel is a historic event that deserves to be celebrated, during his participation in a virtual summit marking the one-year anniversary of the Abraham Accords between Israel and Arab countries, called by the US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken.
In this context, Bourita added that Morocco's relations with Israel precede the Abraham Accords by decades, "in spite of that, we acknowledge the great momentum that has taken place in reviving relations," adding that "the agreement signed by Morocco, Israel and the United States has strengthened the ties between Morocco and the Moroccan Jewish community in Israel".
During his speech at this summit, Bourita reviewed the results achieved so far after the resumption of diplomatic relations between Rabat and Tel Aviv, such as the creation of a platform for bilateral cooperation between Moroccan and Israeli government officials, the signing of 20 bilateral cooperation agreements, the opening of diplomatic representations between the two parties, and visits, such as the visit of The Israeli Foreign Minister, Yair Lapid, to Morocco, and the creation of the Moroccan-Israeli Chamber of Commerce, in addition to the creation of direct flights.
Bourita said that the efficacy of the normalization agreements must be proven by working to show its positive results at the level of regional security and the economic opportunities offered by these agreements.
Bourita also referred to the importance of achieving peace between Israel and Palestine, stating that "the revival of the peace process is essential, as Morocco believes in the importance of the two-state solution while respecting the 1967 borders," adding that King Mohammed VI, who heads the Al-Quds Committee, "believes in preserving Jerusalem as a symbol of peaceful coexistence, for three heavenly religions."
