Burundi Reiterates Support for Morocco’s Territorial Integrity, Kingdom’s Sovereignty over Its Sahara

The Republic of Burundi reiterated on Monday its support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and the Kingdom’s sovereignty over its Sahara.

This position was expressed by the Burundian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Albert Shingiro, in a joint declaration signed on the occasion of the 1st Morocco-Burundi Joint Cooperation Commission, held in Rabat and co-chaired with Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita.

In the joint declaration, the Burundian head of diplomacy praised the international momentum driven, for years, by King Mohammed VI for Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara and in support of the Moroccan autonomy initiative.

He also reiterated the Republic of Burundi’s constant position in support of Morocco’s territorial integrity and its sovereignty over its entire territory, including the Sahara region, reaffirming his country’s support to the autonomy plan presented by the Kingdom, as the only credible and realistic solution to the regional dispute.

Shingiro also commended the UN efforts as the exclusive framework to reach a realistic, practical and lasting solution to the dispute over the Sahara.
