Local authorities in Morocco’s Safi Province announced on Monday morning that the death toll from the severe thunderstorms and sudden flash floods that struck the area on Sunday evening has risen to 37.
According to the same sources, the violent weather conditions triggered strong and rapid floodwaters in several parts of the province within a short period of time, causing significant human losses. As of Monday, 14 injured individuals have been treated at Mohammed V Hospital in Safi, including two patients who were admitted to the intensive care unit due to the seriousness of their injuries.
Authorities confirmed that large-scale interventions are still underway, involving public authorities, civil protection services, security forces and other relevant stakeholders. Search and rescue operations continue in affected areas, alongside efforts to assist and support residents impacted by the floods.
In this context, local authorities called on citizens to heighten vigilance, exercise maximum caution and strictly comply with safety instructions, particularly in light of the severe and unstable weather conditions affecting the country. They stressed that adherence to preventive measures is essential to safeguarding lives and property and reducing potential risks amid ongoing weather fluctuations.
