Israeli soldiers participate in the African Lion 2023 drills in Morocco for the first time

The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) announced on Monday that a delegation of troops belonging to the Golani Brigades had left for Morocco on Sunday to participate in the military drills which is dubbed the African Lion.

According to IDF, the participation of the 12 Israeli soldiers in the military exercises in Morocco is being marked as the first Israeli participation in these annual drills since its beginning in 2007.

Morocco’s Royal Armed Forces command has recently said that the edition of this year -which started June 5 and will last until June 15- witnesses the participation of 8.000 soldiers from 18 countries.

Moroccan forces in partnership with the US forces conduct the bulk of these drills in several regions in Morocco, before moving to other countries in Africa such as Tunisia and Ghana to conduct other exercises.

African Lion drills are considered the biggest military drills in Africa and it aims to strengthen the military abilities of the U.S. allies in the region to face several challenges, such as terrorism.
