In its first official response about the measure that was taken by Morocco yesterday to recall its ambassador to Berlin for consultation over Germany’s hostile stances that violate the highest interests of Morocco, the German Foreign Ministry said that “we are all surprised by this measure”.
According to Reuters, The German Foreign Ministry said it was not informed in advance about the ambassador's recall, adding it could not understand the accusations in the communique from the Moroccan ministry and had asked for an explanation.
"We are all the more surprised by this measure because we are making constructive efforts with the Moroccan side to resolve the crisis," said a ministry official according to Reuters.
Morocco Foreign Ministry announced Yesterday that the Moroccan ambassador to Berlin has been summoned for consultations.
The reason for this recall, is due to Germany's accumulated positions that violate the highest interests of the Kingdom of Morocco, a statement of Morocco’s Foreign Ministry said.
According to the same source, Germany took a negative position on the issue of the Moroccan Sahara, as this hostile position came in the wake of the American presidential declaration, which recognized Morocco's sovereignty over its Sahara, which is considered a dangerous position that has not yet been explained.
In addition to that, Germany is participating in the prosecution of a former convicted of terrorist acts, including its disclosure of sensitive information provided by the Moroccan security services to its German counterpart, the source said.
The same source added that Germany is continuously and relentlessly fighting the regional role played by Morocco, and specifically the role of Morocco in the Libyan file, by trying to exclude the Kingdom without justification from participating in some regional meetings devoted to this file, such as those held in Berlin.
Based on these factors, and because of this persistent and unacceptable hostility, the Kingdom of Morocco decided to summon the Moroccan ambassador to Berlin for consultations, the source concluded.
