King of Morocco receives first dose of vaccine, launches campaign against Covid-19

King of Morocco, Mohamed VI, received on Thursday, the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine and gave the effective start of a national campaign of vaccination in Morocco.

According to the Moroccan New Agency, MAP, the king was vaccinated at the Royal Palace in the city of Fez.

The News Agency added that “In accordance with the High Royal Instructions, the vaccination campaign will be free for all citizens with the aim of immunizing all components of the Moroccan people (30 million to vaccinate about 80 percent of the population), reducing then eliminating infection cases and related-deaths and containing the spread of the virus, with a view to a gradual return to normal life”.

Morocco had distributed various batches of Covid-19 vaccines to different regions within the country days ago, and it is expected that the local authorities to start the vaccination campaign as of tomorrow.

Morocco has been the first country in Africa to receive 2 million doses of Astrazeneca-Oxford vaccine from the Serum Institute in India last friday.
