Moroccan security forces have uncovered a hidden cache of weapons and ammunition linked to a dismantled Daesh terrorist cell, following an extensive investigation led by the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ), part of the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST). The discovery was made in a remote mountainous area in the eastern province of Errachidia, near the border with Algeria.
According to an official statement from Moroccan authorities, field intelligence and technical data revealed that the site was being used as a logistical support base for terrorist activities. Investigators used satellite geolocation and specialized tracking techniques to pinpoint the exact location of the cache on the east bank of Oued Guir in the Boudenib region.
Authorities mobilized specialized logistical equipment and deployed units trained in explosives detection to access the remote site, situated at the foot of a rocky hill with difficult terrain. The search operation lasted over three hours and involved canine patrols, metal detectors, and X-ray scanners.

The security operation led to the discovery of a significant stockpile of weapons, including a Kalashnikov rifle with two magazines, two additional rifles, ten pistols of various calibers, and a large quantity of ammunition. The cache was found wrapped in plastic and newspapers printed in Mali, including publications dated January 27, 2025, suggesting recent concealment.
Investigators believe the arms were supplied by a senior Daesh operative in the Sahel region responsible for external relations. According to intelligence findings, the weapons were smuggled through illegal trafficking routes before being hidden at the site. The cell’s members reportedly received the geographical coordinates of the location last Wednesday, intending to retrieve the cache and use it in planned terrorist attacks.
The seized weapons have been transferred to Morocco’s National Laboratory of Forensic Police for ballistic and technical examinations. Authorities are continuing their investigation, under the supervision of the prosecutor’s office, to uncover further links between the dismantled cell and Daesh’s African branch in the Sahel region.
This discovery comes amid heightened security efforts in Morocco to combat terrorism and organized crime. The country has been recognized for its proactive approach in dismantling extremist networks and preventing attacks through intelligence-driven operations.
Moroccan officials have reiterated their commitment to regional and international cooperation in counterterrorism efforts, particularly in the Sahel region, where Daesh-affiliated groups have expanded their operations in recent years.
