Morocco: Deadly Attack on Royal Gendarmerie Leaves Two Assailants Dead

Moroccan authorities reported that officers of the Royal Gendarmerie in Leqliaa, within the prefecture of Inezgane Ait-Melloul, were forced to use their service weapons in self-defense on Wednesday evening, October 1, 2025, after groups of individuals launched a violent assault on the premises of the territorial brigade.

According to the same sources, the assailants attempted to seize ammunition, equipment, and service weapons belonging to the Royal Gendarmerie. The confrontation left two attackers dead from gunshot wounds, while several others sustained injuries.

The attackers, organized into groups, engaged in acts of violence and vandalism by throwing stones at the brigade’s premises in an effort to storm it. Security forces initially responded with tear gas canisters in an attempt to repel the assault without lethal force.

The situation escalated when larger groups of individuals reinforced the attackers. Armed with bladed weapons, they broke into the building, seized a vehicle and four motorcycles belonging to the Royal Gendarmerie, and set fire to the vehicle and parts of the brigade’s facilities.

The groups also attempted to steal ammunition and service weapons, forcing gendarmes to resort to firearms in legitimate self-defense to repel the assault and protect the security facilities.

Authorities confirmed that a judicial investigation has been opened under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office to determine the full circumstances of the incident, identify all individuals involved, and initiate the necessary legal proceedings.
