Morocco: Family Code Overhaul Presented to King Following Inclusive Consultations

The Head of Morocco's Government, Aziz Akhannouch, met with the members responsible for revising the Family Code on Saturday. They presented their proposals, aimed at submitting them to King Mohammed VI.

Following the meeting, Akhannouch stated to the press that the body entrusted with revising the Family Code had completed its tasks within the deadlines outlined in the King's letter to the Head of Government. He mentioned that the rotating coordinator of the body had presented a report on proposed amendments to the Family Code for the King's consideration.

Akhannouch emphasized that the revision process had been inclusive, with the body conducting hearings involving various stakeholders from civil society organizations focusing on women, children, and human rights. Additionally, they engaged with political parties, trade unions, judges, activists, researchers, academics, and government ministries. The body also considered emailed memorandums before examining the proposals resulting from the broad consultations.

Expressing gratitude, the Head of Government thanked King Mohammed VI for endorsing this inclusive approach to involve the Moroccan family fully in society. He conveyed his honor in presenting the proposals of the Family Code revision body to the King for his esteemed consideration.
