Morocco Hosts Libyan Consultative Meeting on Electoral Law

The consultative meeting between the delegations of the Libyan House of Representatives and the Libyan High Council of State on the electoral law kicked off Thursday in Rabat.

During this two-day meeting, which is being held behind closed doors, the two parties will discuss outstanding issues concerning the organization of the presidential and legislative elections, scheduled for December 24, which are a crucial step in bringing the country out of the crisis it is experiencing.

In a statement to the press after the opening session of this meeting, U.S. Ambassador to Libya, Richard Norland, said that the representatives of the two parties of the Libyan dialogue are working to lay the constitutional foundations that will allow the organization of these elections within the set time.

In this regard, the U.S. diplomat welcomed the hosting by Morocco of this meeting which is of paramount importance for Libya, expressing the hope that the efforts of the Kingdom, as well as the work done by the United Nations, are crowned with success, with a view to the holding of these elections and the formation of a unity government for the return to normal life in this country.

Morocco's hosting of the consultative meeting on the Libyan electoral law comes after a series of rounds of Libyan dialogue held in the Kingdom and marked in particular by the agreement on the mechanism of accession to the seven positions of sovereignty provided for in Article 15 of the Libyan Political Agreement concluded in 2015 in Skhirat.
