Morocco’s National Agency for Water and Forests (ANEF) has issued a wildfire risk bulletin for the period of August 17 to 20, warning of heightened fire danger across several provinces.
According to the agency, extreme fire risk levels have been identified in Chefchaouen, Fahs-Anjra, Tangier-Asilah, M’diq-Fnideq, and Taza. A high risk of wildfires is also anticipated in Al Hoceima, Larache, Ouezzane, Tetouan, Ifrane, and Taounate.
Moderate risk zones include Berkane, Driouch, Nador, Oujda-Angad, Sefrou, Rabat, Salé, Skhirate-Temara, Azilal, Béni Mellal, Khénifra, Essaouira, and Agadir Ida-Outanane, the bulletin added.
The assessment is based on scientific prediction models and data analysis related to forest types, combustibility, flammability, and topoclimatic factors.
ANEF urged residents living near forests, summer visitors, tourists, and professionals working in forested areas to exercise maximum caution and adopt all preventive measures to avoid potential outbreaks.
The agency also called on citizens to remain vigilant and immediately notify local authorities if they detect smoke or any suspicious activity in forested zones.
