Morocco keeps fight against drug trafficking, over 12 tonnes seized

The Moroccan security forces keep the fight against drug trafficking and criminal drug networks and announced today the seizing of more than 12 tons of Hashish in two operations.

According to a press release issued by the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), the first operation was carried out in Kenitra yesterday when the police dismantled an international drug trafficking network and seized eight tonnes and 902 kilograms of Hashish.

The second operation, the same source added, was carried out in Ait Melloul near Agadir city on Sunday; it is a complement to the first operation and led to the seize of 4.9 tonnes of Hashish.

The press release mentioned that the total quantity of the drugs seized by Moroccan police was intended for international trafficking, adding that investigations have been opened to reach the people behind that.

Morocco has increased its security campaigns against drug trafficking in the last months, and a number of drug networks have been dismantled, and dozens of tons of drugs have been seized.

The kingdom of Morocco is being considered one of the biggest producers of Cannabis in the world; Cannabis is the source of Hashish production.
