The Moroccan Ministry of Interior has announced heightened national preparedness to address potential impacts from winter weather during the 2025-2026 season, following instructions from King Mohammed VI.
In an official statement, the ministry said it is coordinating with government departments and relevant institutions to strengthen field monitoring and ensure effective coordination among responders, while taking preventive measures to protect citizens and reduce potential damage.
As part of these efforts, a central command and vigilance centre has been activated at the Ministry of Interior, alongside the establishment of regional monitoring committees. These are operating under the national plan for responding to cold waves, which has been updated to expand coverage and enhance the effectiveness of interventions in affected areas.
The plan is targeting a wide population across 28 provinces and prefectures, providing on-the-ground assistance, distributing essential supplies and heating materials, securing animal feed to protect livestock, and ensuring continued road and telecommunications access. Emergency support will also be available for individuals in critical situations.
The Ministry of Interior emphasised that all public authorities are fully mobilised and called on citizens—particularly those in affected regions—to remain vigilant, follow safety guidelines, and avoid unnecessary travel to reduce risks associated with severe weather conditions.
