Moroccan authorities have stepped up emergency measures to protect civilians and infrastructure following severe flooding caused by exceptional weather conditions, particularly in the northern city of Ksar El Kébir.
Meeting on Friday at the Ministry of the Interior, the National Monitoring Committee in charge of managing flood-related emergencies reviewed the situation on the ground and coordinated response efforts involving multiple government departments and security services. The committee highlighted the immediate intervention of the Royal Armed Forces, which were deployed under high-level instructions to assist affected populations and provide logistical and humanitarian support.
According to officials, the response includes the large-scale mobilization of human resources, emergency equipment and logistical means to evacuate residents, secure vulnerable areas and limit damage caused by rising water levels. Authorities have also intensified real-time monitoring and operational coordination to ensure rapid intervention where needed.
The flooding has been exacerbated by heavy rainfall, swollen rivers and the saturation of dam reservoirs, some of which have reached full capacity. Special attention has been given to managing water levels in the Loukkos and Sebou rivers and their tributaries in order to contain flooding, reduce its spread and protect nearby communities, farmland and infrastructure.
The committee also reviewed measures aimed at strengthening coordination between local authorities, emergency services and other stakeholders, with a focus on improving the efficiency and speed of interventions during critical weather conditions.
Officials stressed that monitoring efforts will continue around the clock until conditions stabilize, with emergency teams remaining on high alert to respond immediately to any further developments. Public services have been instructed to maintain full mobilization and to provide assistance and support to those affected by the floods.
Authorities have urged residents in affected areas to remain vigilant, follow official safety instructions and avoid unnecessary risks, as efforts continue to mitigate the impact of the flooding and ensure public safety.
