Morocco, Pakistan Seek to Deepen Legal and Judicial Cooperation

Morocco’s Minister of Justice, Abdellatif Ouahbi, has held talks in Doha with his Pakistani counterpart, Azam Nazeer Tarar, focusing on strengthening cooperation in legal and judicial affairs and exchanging views on issues of shared interest.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Doha Legal Forum and provided an opportunity to reaffirm what both sides described as the depth of relations between Morocco and Pakistan, characterised by mutual respect and continued coordination, particularly in the justice sector, according to a statement from Morocco’s Ministry of Justice.

The two ministers stressed the importance of developing mechanisms for legal and judicial cooperation to keep pace with global legislative and technological developments, with the aim of reinforcing the rule of law and safeguarding the independence of the judiciary.

Discussions also covered prospects for enhancing cooperation in judicial training, exchanging expertise in the modernisation of legislation, and improving court management systems. The talks included sharing experiences in alternative dispute resolution methods, notably arbitration and mediation, which were highlighted as key tools for strengthening legal certainty and improving the business climate.

Both sides underlined the need for a balanced legislative framework that combines efficiency and innovation while ensuring the protection of rights and freedoms, as well as promoting transparency and accountability.

The meeting further addressed cooperation in combating cross-border crime, including terrorism, money laundering and financial crimes, through the exchange of expertise and information and the establishment of mutual legal assistance mechanisms, in line with national legislation and respect for each country’s legal sovereignty.

For his part, Pakistan’s Minister of Justice welcomed the reforms undertaken by Morocco in the justice sector, praising the kingdom’s experience in modernising its judicial system and strengthening judicial governance.

Mr Tarar reaffirmed Pakistan’s willingness to expand cooperation with Morocco in justice-related fields, describing such collaboration as serving shared interests and contributing to legal stability.

Both ministers expressed a common desire to continue strengthening legal and judicial ties through more frequent exchanges of visits, technical meetings and participation in international forums, with the aim of building an effective partnership capable of supporting modern legal systems and responding to global change.
