Morocco, under the leadership King Mohammed VI, believes in peace as a strategic choice and in the need to move away from a crisis-management logic in response to unacceptable Israeli measures, said Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates Nasser Bourita, on Thursday in Cairo.
"Under the leadership of HM the King, the Kingdom of Morocco, deeply convinced that lasting peace is a strategic option and that the logic of crisis cannot persist, will continue to act with sincere commitment through concrete measures, leveraging its position on the regional and international stages to help create the conditions necessary for a return to negotiations—seen as the only way to bring the conflict to a close and establish security and stability in the Middle East," Bourita emphasized during the 164th session of the Council of the League of Arab States at ministerial level.
In line with the enlightened vision of His Majesty the King—who personally and continuously follows developments in the Palestinian territories, whether in Gaza, the West Bank, or Al-Quds Asharif—Morocco reiterates its call for an immediate ceasefire and a return to the negotiating table to end the war and bring the region out of this deadlock, the Minister added.
In this regard, Bourita reaffirmed Morocco’s call for the opening of all crossing points to ensure the smooth delivery of humanitarian aid and relief to Gaza strip, and for the launch of a comprehensive process enabling displaced civilians to safely return to their homes.
He also called for support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), the preservation of its role in serving civilian populations, and the protection of all humanitarian structures under the Palestinian Authority.
The Minister reiterated Morocco’s appeal for immediate and urgent intervention to end Israeli aggressions in the West Bank—particularly the demolition of homes and displacement of civilians to areas under Israeli security control—as well as in Al-Quds, stressing the need to ensure respect for Muslim and Christian holy sites in accordance with the status quo in place since 1967.
In the same context, Bourita recalled that, as part of Morocco’s ongoing solidarity with the Palestinian brotherly people, HM King Mohammed VI, Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, ordered the launch of a humanitarian air bridge to Gaza a few weeks ago, delivering nearly 300 tons of food, medical supplies, and emergency aid.
Delivered via unprecedented routes, this direct assistance helped alleviate the suffering of Palestinians and supported them in facing the dire humanitarian situation, he noted.
The Minister added that the King, in his capacity as Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, spares no effort in supporting the residents of Al-Quds—both politically and through the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Asharif Agency, the executive arm of the Committee, which operates under the King’s direct supervision.
The Agency, he said, continues to implement concrete programs and projects aimed at preserving the legal and historical status of the Holy City, safeguarding its holy sites, improving living conditions for Al-Quds residents, and reinforcing their resilience and rootedness in their land.
Bourita welcomed the growing international momentum in recent years in support of recognizing the State of Palestine—an effort aligned with the increasing backing for the two-state solution, as the most rational and realistic option for maintaining regional balance and addressing current challenges.
As part of this dynamic, Morocco, in partnership with the Kingdom of the Netherlands, hosted the 5th meeting of the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution on May 20, 2025, in Rabat, he recalled. The conclusions of that meeting made a valuable contribution to the high-level international conference held in New York, co-chaired by Saudi Arabia and France.
On another front, Bourita stressed that, in accordance with the High Royal Guidelines, Morocco attaches great importance to developments in the Syrian sisterly Arab Republic, recalling the recent reopening of the Kingdom’s embassy in Damascus as a contribution to strengthening and developing relations between the two brotherly countries and peoples.
In this regard, he reiterated Morocco’s support for the Syrian brotherly people in managing the current political phase through internal consensus, with the aim of ensuring security and stability and preserving Syria’s unity and territorial integrity.
Finally, the Minister reaffirmed Morocco’s involvement—under the leadership of the King—to all noble initiatives that aim to promote a shared and effective Arab action to address shared challenges and secure the Arab world’s rightful place on the international stage, positioning it as a regional force working for the security of its states and the aspirations of its peoples.
He added that the League of Arab States remains the appropriate mechanism to achieve these goals. Morocco hopes that concrete steps will be taken to accelerate its reform in a spirit of compromise and coherence, to enable the League to fulfill its mission more effectively—advancing Arab solidarity and responding to member states’ aspirations for peace, security, and progress.
