Morocco signs Board of Peace charter in Davos after royal invitation from Trump

Morocco on Thursday formally signed the founding charter of the Board of Peace during a ceremony held in Davos, Switzerland, marking the Kingdom’s official entry into the newly created international initiative aimed at supporting global peace and stability.

Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, signed the document on behalf of the Kingdom alongside U.S. President Donald Trump, according to details announced during the ceremony.

After President Trump concluded his remarks, the formal signing ceremony began, with participating countries joining the U.S. president in pairs. The process started with Bahrain, represented by Sheikh Isa, followed by Morocco, with Bourita stepping forward to sign the charter.

Moments later, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt addressed the gathering, announcing:
“Congratulations, President Trump. The charter is now in full force, and the Board of Peace is now an official international organisation.”

Other leaders and representatives then followed in pairs, each presenting their signed documents to the assembled audience.

The signing in Davos follows an earlier announcement by Morocco’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirming that King Mohammed VI had received an official invitation from President Trump to join the Board of Peace as a founding member. The invitation was extended to the Moroccan monarch in his capacity as Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee and in recognition of his role in advancing peace initiatives at the regional and international levels.

According to the ministry, membership of the Board of Peace is limited to a select group of prominent international leaders actively engaged in promoting peace and stability. King Mohammed VI welcomed the invitation, commending President Trump’s vision and commitment to supporting peace efforts, and confirmed that Morocco would proceed with ratifying the Board’s founding charter.

The Board of Peace is intended to operate as an international organisation focused on supporting stability, good governance and sustainable peace in conflict-affected regions through practical cooperation and results-oriented partnerships. Participation in the initiative, the ministry noted, is exclusively by invitation from the President of the United States.

In this context, Morocco reaffirmed its long-standing position on the Palestinian issue, reiterating its support for a just and lasting solution based on the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, living side by side with Israel in peace.

The ministry concluded by stressing that Morocco, under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, remains firmly committed to initiatives that promote dialogue, stability and peaceful coexistence at both regional and international levels.
