Morocco to receive 2 batches of COVID-19 vaccine in late April

Morocco expected to receive two batches of COVID-19 vaccine in the remainder of this month, one from China and the other from Russia, sources from Moroccan Health Ministry reported.

According to the same sources, the first batch is expected to arrive in Morocco today or tomorrow, composed of 500 thousand doses of the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine.

The second batch, the same sources confirmed, will come from Russia to bring Sputnik V vaccine doses on April 30, but there has been no information yet about the number of doses that will come.

These new vaccine supplies will give another push to the Moroccan national vaccination campaign after a slow due to the lack of supplies from the AstraZeneca vaccine from India.

The number of people vaccinated in Morocco to date (dose 1) has reached 4,723,635 while 4,217,485 others have received the second dose of the vaccine, said the ministry in its daily report on the situation of Covid-19.

Morocco was the first African nation to start a vaccination campaign on Jan. 28, after obtaining 8 million and a half doses of the Covid-19 vaccine, 7 million from AstraZeneca, and 1 million and a half from the Chinese Sinopharm.
