Morocco's experience on Women in Peace and Security highlighted in London

Morocco’s Embassy in London co-organized on Wednesday with the Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security, and the Policy Center for the New South, a roundtable aimed at sharing Morocco's experience on Women in Peace and Security.

The residence of Morocco in London hosted the event that was chaired by Hakim Hajoui, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco, where it was an opportunity to exchange views and insights about the important role of Women in Peace and Security, especially, the Moroccan experience.

The roundtable witnessed the attendance of Baroness Mary Goudie, a member of the British House of Lords and a global advocate for the rights of women and children, Gillian keegan, a member of parliament for Chichester Minister for Africa at FCDO, Melanne Verveer, Executive Director of the Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security, Nouzha Chekrouni, a Senior Fellow at the Policy Center for the New South, Souad Talsi, an acting Chief Executive Officer at Al-Hasaniya Moroccan Women’s Centre, and Najlaa Habriri, a journalist and international affairs editor at Asharq Al-Awsat.

The event came days before October 31st, which will mark this year the twenty-second anniversary of the United Nations Security Council’s resolution 1325 which links women to the peace and security (WPS) agenda, by reaffirming the important role of women in the prevention and resolution of conflicts, peace negotiations, peace-building, peacekeeping, humanitarian response and in post-conflict reconstruction.

According to Morocco’s ambassador, Hakim Hajoui, “The Kingdom of Morocco, under the Vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, has made gender equality and the respect, protection, and promotion of women’s rights a priority of both its national policies and its international agenda.”

“Our Kingdom, in line with its commitment to multilateralism and aware of the complexity of today’s world, has decided to adopt a National Action Plan (2021-2024) for the implementation of resolution 1325 in March 2022. For an equitable and inclusive implementation of the WPS agenda, Morocco’s National Action Plan was adopted following a participatory and comprehensive approach.” the ambassador concluded.
