Morocco’s Role in Global Security Highlighted as Marrakech Hosts INTERPOL General Assembly

Morocco’s growing influence in global security took center stage on Friday as Marrakech welcomed the 93rd General Assembly of INTERPOL, an event described as clear international recognition of the Kingdom’s commitment to safety and stability.

Speaking at a press conference, INTERPOL President Major General Ahmed Naser Al-Raisi said hosting this high-level gathering reflects Morocco’s active engagement within the organization and its consistent presence in global forums addressing security challenges.

Al-Raisi praised Morocco as “a country of security and peace,” noting that the Kingdom attaches great importance to international police cooperation and views security as a shared global responsibility. Organizing such a major event, he said, further demonstrates Morocco’s prominent position in INTERPOL bodies, initiatives, and operations, as well as its continued support for the organization.

He underlined Morocco’s strategic geographic position at the intersection of Africa, the Arab world, and Europe, highlighting the country’s role in facilitating cooperation across continents. The return of the General Assembly to Morocco—after first being held in the Kingdom in 2007—confirms its firm commitment to close coordination with member states, particularly at a time when the world faces rising threats in areas such as cybersecurity and transnational crime.

Al-Raisi emphasized Morocco’s substantial contribution to strengthening security in Africa, pointing to the Kingdom’s role as INTERPOL Vice President for Africa and its efforts to support training and joint operations with countries across the continent. “Most of the operations conducted in the region have seen Morocco among the first countries present,” he said.

INTERPOL’s president also expressed pride in Morocco’s security achievements at the African, Arab, and global levels, and voiced confidence in the Kingdom’s ability to successfully host major future events, including the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

The 93rd General Assembly, held from 24 to 27 November, brings together delegates from INTERPOL’s member countries to define policy directions, strengthen cooperation mechanisms, and discuss global security challenges. The event in Marrakech provides an important platform for Morocco to deepen international partnerships and reaffirm its role as a reliable actor in global law enforcement collaboration.
