Spanish Secretary of State: Morocco's Atlantic Initiative, Model for Co-development, Intra-African Solidarity

The Atlantic Initiative led by King Mohammed VI is a model of co-development and intra-African solidarity, Spanish Secretary of State for Migration Pilar Cancela Rodríguez said.

In a statement to MAP, the Spanish official praised the Royal Vision, which hoists Morocco as a key player in shared stability and development on the African Atlantic coast, noting that this Initiative will have a positive impact on the continent, both in terms of economic exchanges and the prosperity and resilience of its peoples.

She stressed that the Royal Vision for Atlantic Africa, by integrating Sahel countries and the western coast of the continent into a dynamic of co-development, "is in line with the philosophy defended by Spain and the European Union, that of a balanced, solidarity-based and human-centered partnership."

The Secretary of State also highlighted Morocco's strategic role in Africa and the Sahel region, where its geopolitical position and stability make it the best partner for Spain and the EU in the coordinated management of migration flows.

Cancela Rodríguez also noted that Morocco and Spain share a common history and culture, which translates into a positive migration policy based on dialogue, solidarity, and human rights, ensuring that the Kingdom is an "essential partner and an example of constructive cooperation in the region."

The Spanish official also spoke of promoting regular, safe, and orderly migration, arguing that migration must be approached from a perspective of dignity and sustainable human mobility.
