U.S. Report Praises Morocco's Enhanced Efforts in Combating Human Trafficking

The Moroccan Committee for Coordinating Measures to Combat and Prevent Human Trafficking issued a statement on the occasion of the release of the U.S. Department of State's annual report on human trafficking for 2024. The report praised Morocco's increasing efforts in combating this crime compared to the previous period. Thanks to these efforts, the kingdom maintained its ranking in the Tier 2 category.

The committee's statement noted that the report highlighted an increase in prosecutions and convictions, the adoption of the National Plan to Combat and Prevent Human Trafficking for the period 2023-2030, the National Referral Mechanism for Victims of Human Trafficking, the National Strategic Action Plan for the period 2023-2026, and the publication of a guide for identifying victims of human trafficking. Additionally, a hotline was established to report potential human trafficking cases, and coordination with NGOs and international organizations to set up temporary and emergency shelters for victims was mentioned.

The statement also mentioned the efforts in awareness and prevention through media campaigns on television, advertisements, art exhibitions, and social media, in coordination with some international organizations. The kingdom received ten priority recommendations as part of the "2024-2025 Action Plan" to enhance victim protection and strengthen national efforts in combating human trafficking, which the National Committee is working to implement in coordination with all relevant partners and institutions.

It is worth noting that the U.S. report is a comprehensive and objective evaluation of anti-human trafficking efforts in 188 countries, including the United States. This year, the report particularly focused on the role of digital technology in human trafficking.
