The United Nations on Monday offered its condolences to the bereaved family of the child Rayan, following the tragic accident that claimed his life, while praising the efforts of rescuers who tried to save him.
At his daily press briefing, the UN SG's Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Haq said that the Secretary-General, António Guterres, is "saddened by this news. Our hearts are with [Rayan's] family and his community."
"We praise the work and time spent by the rescuers to save little Rayan," he added.
Rescue teams succeeded on Saturday evening, after five days of continuous efforts, in getting out the child Rayan Aourram who fell into a well in the commune of Tamorot, in the province of Chefchaouen.
Following this tragic incident, HM King Mohammed VI had a phone call with Rayan's parents during which the Sovereign expressed His deepest condolences and His sincere feelings of compassion to all the members of the family of the deceased in this painful ordeal, the divine will being unstoppable, praying the Almighty to have him in His holy mercy and accept him in His vast paradise, and to grant patience and comfort to his family.
The burial of Rayan Aourram took place after the Dhuhr and the dead prayers, in the municipality of Tamorot.
