Washington announces support for U.S. investments in Morocco’s southern provinces

U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau announced that his country has decided to encourage American investments in Morocco’s southern provinces, in line with Washington’s recognition of the Kingdom’s sovereignty over the Sahara.

Speaking to the press on Wednesday in New York following talks with Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita, Landau said the move falls within global initiatives launched by former U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration to advance economic and trade diplomacy. He added: “We are pleased to announce that we will encourage U.S. companies wishing to invest in this region of Morocco.”

The U.S. official further noted that his discussions with Bourita also covered the longstanding relations between Rabat and Washington, affirming the U.S. administration’s readiness to work with Morocco to “promote prosperity, peace, and stability in the region.”
