Morocco opened its Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 campaign with a 2–0 victory over Comoros on Sunday evening at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.
After a goalless first half, the Atlas Lions broke the deadlock in the 55th minute through Brahim Diaz, who gave the hosts a deserved lead as they stepped up the pressure after the break.
Morocco sealed the win in the 74th minute when Ayoub El Kaabi produced a spectacular acrobatic overhead kick, drawing loud celebrations from the home crowd and confirming the team’s strong start to the tournament.
With this result, Morocco provisionally tops Group A with three points following the opening round of matches.
The second fixture in the group will be played on Monday, when Mali face Zambia at the Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca, with kick-off scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Moroccan time.
