French President Emmanuel Macron on Wednesday issued directives to his government to act "with greater firmness and determination" toward Algeria, citing the case of writer Boualem Sansal and journalist Christophe Glez, who are imprisoned in the North African country. He also called for "additional measures" to be taken in this regard.
According to France 24, quoting AFP, President Macron instructed his government on Wednesday to adopt a tougher and more resolute stance toward Algeria.
The French president, as reported by the same source, pointed to the fate of Boualem Sansal and Christophe Glez, and requested that "further decisions" be made concerning their situation.
Among the measures included in a letter addressed to Prime Minister François Bayrou, which Le Figaro reviewed, President Macron asked the government to officially suspend the implementation of the 2013 agreement with Algeria concerning visa exemptions for official and diplomatic passports.
