Morocco's FM holds talks with Italian counterpart

Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad, Nasser Bourita, on Friday held talks through videoconference with Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Luigi Di Maio. During these talks, which are part of the permanent contacts and regular exchanges between the two ministers, Bourita and Di Maio commended the excellent relations between the two countries and agreed to develop them further, through the operationalization of the declaration on the Multidimensional Strategic Partnership by putting in place the related dialogue and cooperation mechanisms, said the ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement.

Regarding economic cooperation, the two officials stressed the importance of taking into consideration the new priorities imposed by the context of the pandemic, in terms of promoting investment and developing new value chains. They underlined the importance of promoting mechanisms and tools for exchange and cooperation between the business communities in the two countries, with a view to organizing an economic forum, the statement added.

The two ministers praised the excellent security cooperation, stressing the importance of further strengthening and expanding it to benefit other partners and other regions, particularly in Africa. Di Maio underlined Italy’s commitment to accompany and support the strengthening of the strategic partnership between the EU and Morocco.

He thus reiterated his country's support for Morocco's serious and credible efforts as a regional pole of stability and a relay for development and growth in Africa. According to the same source, the two ministers underscored the importance of continuing their coordination on issues of common interest, particularly in Libya and the Sahel, as well as within international bodies.
